Be thankful you get to go to work

Today I saw a day laborer (a painter) in front of Home Depot holding up a sign looking for work. He wasn’t asking for handouts. He just wants a job. It was maybe the third time I’ve seen him there. I guess he’s around my age. I admire his desire to work and his willingness to stand outside on a chilly morning looking for an employer.

I am blessed in two areas: I’ve always had steady employment and I enjoy what I do. The only drawback is that I work rotating shifts, so sometimes I work evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays. Yes, there are times when I’d rather be at home with the family or home in bed. But that’s okay. I’m not about to complain about going to work. Thank God I have a job to go to five days a week.
