Last week Bud Selig retired as commissioner of baseball after 16+ years. Baseball flourished under Selig, and his long tenure will be remembered favorably. One thing Selig did not do that I wish he would have was reinstate Pete Rose. Yes, Pete Rose was a scoundrel, but the history of baseball is littered with scoundrels. He’s done prison time. He’s been banned from baseball for more than a quarter-century, which is longer than his 24-year playing career. He has more than paid his dues. It is time. Will the new commissioner, Rob Manfred, be the one to bring back Pete? I’m not holding my breath, but it is the right thing to do.
