I did not watch the Memphis Grizzlies game last night. It was the late game, I was exhausted, and, knowing I had to get up early this morning, I figured myself I owed myself a good night’s rest. Besides, there was no way Memphis was going to win at Golden State. The Warriors are the best team in the NBA. They’d only lost two home games the entire season. They beat us by 15 points in game 1. Even with an injured Mike Conley re-entering the lineup, how effective was he going to be?
I woke up this morning to discover that the Memphis Grizzlies won last night. Not only was it just the Warriors’ 3rd home loss of the year, but the Warriors were heretofore 44-0 when holding their opponents under 100 points. The Grizzlies scored 97. Oh, and Mike Conley? Despite wearing a mask following reconstructive facial surgery, the Grizzlies’ indomitable point guard led all scorers with 22 points.
In sports, with enough grit and determination, all things are possible. The Grizzlies have now wrested home-court advantage away from Golden State, at least for now. If Memphis can win their home games, they will win the series. Of course, that’s easier said than done. The Warriors are hard to beat on any court. But still, what a huge improbable win for Memphis last night.
