Tomorrow my 17-year-old finishes his first week at Wilson Central High School in Lebanon, Tennessee. It is the first year he has ever attended a public school. It will also be his last, as he is a senior. I am impressed with this school. So far our experience has been 100% positive. The staff of guidance counselors is fully competent. It is a very large school and operates very efficiently from everything we’ve been able to tell. The course catalog resembles that of a small college. Our son only has two required courses (math & English), meaning he got to round out his schedule with six electives. Since he doesn’t yet know what he wants to do, his guidance counselor recommended a wide array of subjects to maybe help him find something that interests him. So far, every concern we ever had about the public school system has evaporated. Judging by the smooth start, this is going to be a good year.
