How about a pledge to the voters?

Republican candidates for president are taking a pledge to support the eventual GOP nominee and not go third party. Donald Trump has even taken the pledge. As Rush Limbaugh pointed out yesterday, the news isn’t so much that Trump has pledged to support the eventual nominee, but that the other Republicans have pledged to support Trump. At any rate, I’m not really hung up on Republican candidates making pledges to one another. This is simply a method of self-preservation. It means nothing to rank-and-file voters. What I’d really like to see are Republican candidates making pledges to the voters, like pledging to secure the border and de-fund Planned Parenthood. Candidates making pledges to fellow candidates illustrates that they care more about the political party than the voters. (And how come Democrats are never asked to make similar pledges?)
