Put on the whole armor of God so that we might resist the temptations of the devil. We must have a “battle plan” in order to engage in spiritual warfare. Even without it, we’re still engaged in spiritual warfare, but will be doomed to fail. Pride is the antithesis of the Scripture. Only through humility shall we be exalted. You cannot be in submission to God if you haven’t humbled yourself first. You cannot be in submission to God if you’re still in submission to yourself.
1. Submission to God is a choice and is the only key to true victory. Choose you this day whom you will serve. No matter what, we are servants. We just get to choose our master. Unless you submit to God you will never have victory. And we submit by asking for help. When we do submit, we do have the ability to resist (stand in opposition to) the devil.
2. The devil only has the authority in our lives that we give him. Stand up and oppose him. We don’t have to give in to the devil’s power (finite). Our God’s power is much greater (limitless). But if we are going to see God’s work in our lives, we must resist the devil. And resistance comes through submission to God. Christ resisted the devil by quoting Scripture. And the devil departed from Him. The devil hates God’s word. Do not give him power in your home he doesn’t deserve.
3. Life’s purpose is to passionately draw closer to the heart of God. Our purpose in life is to be like Christ. Otherwise, we’ll get nowhere in life. Just being saved does not draw us close. We must continually pursue Christlikeness. We should never be fully satisfied with our walk with Christ. When we take initiative, he draws closer to us. Sometimes God speaks to us in a still, small voice.
