A slice of Americana that no longer exists

Last evening I took my wife to Cheekwood to see the Christmas lights. We have been members there for years, and this is the first time they’ve ever done Christmas lights and so we made the drive out there for a pleasant evening stroll.

The mansion at Cheekwood also serves as an art museum, and right now they are featuring a collection of Normal Rockwell Saturday Evening Post covers, which is one of the better collections I’ve seen there. There were several dozen of his works on display. I only photographed a handful of them.

Norman Rockwell was before my time, so I never really knew the America he captured in his art. But I still feel some element of nostalgia for the period he captured. It is a bygone era that we’ll sadly never know again.
