He hasn’t formally announced his retirement from “hitting things with sticks,” but Neil Peart, who has been the drummer for Rush the last 41 years, says he now considers himself a retired drummer. It’s not altogether surprising, and I certainly can’t blame him if he has decided to walk away for good. Neil has battled chronic tendinitis which he played with during the band’s 2015 tour, and he has a six-year-old daughter who I’m sure he wants to spend every moment with he can. The finality will take some getting used to. The members of Rush have said before that if even one of them is missing then Rush cannot go on. Regardless, they have left us with a incredible catalog of timeless music we fans can still enjoy for the rest of our lives.
