Sunday sermon notes from 1 John 3:1-3

Either we are saved and in Him or not saved and not in Him. The promises of God will never fail us. God cannot lie. You cannot love without sacrifice: generosity, pain, heartache. God bestows His love on us because He wants to.

1. It is through the abundance of God’s love that we are brought into God’s family. As many as believed in Him were saved and made into sons of God. We can do nothing to make Him love us more or less. It is natural for lost people to live like lost people. It should be natural for saved people to behave like saved people. God’s love reaches to the deepest depravity. We don’t need man’s approval in order to flow in the grace of God. This world knows us not; it is angry with us because it does not know Him. There will be a day when we will be like Jesus, for we shall see Him as He is.

2. There’s coming a day that “the struggle is real” will be “the struggle is done.” There is still hardship and depression, but the struggle is proof that God is working in us. In God’s presence there will be no separation.

3. If we believe in the coming of Christ we will be drawn to the purity of life. Jesus is coming again. We don’t know exactly when, but it is enough to know that He is. If you really believe this then live like it. Don’t live so haphazard. Today could be our last. Don’t lie down in compromise. Don’t live in sin. Go out in style. Stand on the promises of God. We get back what we invest down here. Purity is security.
