A reporter with the Chicago Sun-Times, Neil Steinberg, went into a gun store to prove just how easy it is to buy a gun. Except he never bought a gun. He failed the background check because of alcohol abuse and domestic battery. The story he was going to write literally blew up in his face.
In a separate incident in Alexandria, Virginia, a CBS reporter actually did purchase a firearm (legally) in order to show how easy it is to purchase a firearm. On her paperwork, the reporter claimed the firearm was for personal use. But hours later, she transferred the firearm to a third party, and you can’t do that. So the gun store owner who sold the firearm has filed a report with law enforcement and the ATF.
You literally cannot make this stuff up.
