Sometimes dreams can be the pits (Genesis 42:1-43:34)

You have to be careful who you share your dreams with, because sometimes your dreams can seem flamboyant or too ambitious. This was the case of Joseph and his brothers.

If it’s God’s design for your life, it will come to pass.

Someone very important may sooner or later need what you have, as in the case of Pharaoh and Joseph.

God will move mountains to help fulfill your destiny as long as you keep your mouth shut and let Him work.

The world was starving during the 7 years of famine, but Egypt had bread. Somehow, Jacob and his sons discovered this and decided to go to Egypt to buy grain.

When his brothers confronted Joseph after all these years, they bowed before him but did not recognize him. This fulfilled the dreams Joseph had as a youth.

Your true character will show when you are placed in a position of power.

Joseph decided to test his brothers. He tested their loyalty to Benjamin, their youngest brother.

Joseph had accused his brothers of spying, even jailing them for 3 days.

God forgives sins, but He does not relieve consequences.

A clear conscience is a continual Christmas.

Be a jerk and see what happens later in life. If you are continually negative, then you will forever receive negative attention.

Your sin will find you out. He who covers his sin shall not prosper. You cannot hide your sin from God.

When Joseph spoke to his brothers, he spoke through an interpreter. His brothers did not realize he understood everything they were saying amongst themselves.

Joseph had to turn away from his brothers to hide the fact that he wept. All that pain and anguish of rejection flooded back to him.

Joseph had their sacks filled with corn and also returned all their money to them. When they discovered this, his brothers feared it was a trap. In fact, they thought it was something from God.

If we will point our children in the direction they are inclined to go, they won’t stray from it.

When the brothers informed Jacob that Joseph had requested they bring Benjamin back to Egypt, he was anguished. They still had no idea they were dealing with Joseph.

There is a time gap between the brothers’ return from Egypt and their second pilgrimage back to Egypt with Benjamin. During this period of disobedience, the famine worsened and they had to return and buy more food.

We think that by ignoring problems they will go away. In fact, they worsen.

They had to take Benjamin in order to have further dealings with Joseph. Jacob was angry with them for even mentioning the fact that they had another brother.

They decided to bring gifts for Joseph for their return, along with double their money. Jacob was resigned to bereavement should Benjamin not return.

They were ordered to feast at Joseph’s residence. They explained that their money had been returned to them by mistake before.

Joseph inquired about their father.

They bowed down to Joseph again.

When he saw Benjamin, he sought a place where he could weep again.

Joseph did not dine with them, but did have them arranged in order from oldest to youngest, which caused them to marvel.

Benjamin’s plate was filled 5 times as much as the rest of them. Joseph was playing them to see if they were still beset by jealousy.

Likewise, Jesus will test our flesh to reveal what’s most important to us. He will stoke the fire to see if we will put Him first.
